Pléneuf-Val-André

The beach of Pléneuf-Val-André is a wide stretch of fine sand on the Brittany coast, popular for its long tides and navigation possibilities. It is a spot favored by locals and schools for its accessibility and the variety of conditions offered.

The area hosts local schools and rental services, and remains frequented in the winter season by riders seeking consistent wind and a large body of water.

Location

Detailed information

The wind frequently blows from West to Northwest, which gives side-shore to side-on conditions depending on the exact location on the beach. The water surface is largely influenced by tides: at low tide, the depth is very shallow and navigation mainly occurs offshore, while at high tide, the area becomes more navigable near the shore. Launching occurs from the sand, favoring clear areas marked by practitioners or schools; avoid marked swimming areas in the summer season where practice is regulated. The navigation area is generally located offshore and to the left of the beach when facing the sea, avoiding sensitive areas and the protected dune reserve. Local schools set up technical areas and flags for takeoff and landing when the marking is removed out of the summer season. Be cautious of areas where the presence of channels or obstacles (dike, moorings) can make recovery difficult in case of a fall.
