Locmariaquer

Saint Pierre beach in Locmariaquer, in southern Brittany, is a kitesurfing spot nestled in a small sheltered bay. It is mainly navigated in the mudflat at high tide, with an ultra-flat water surface that attracts local riders.

It is a discreet place in Morbihan, popular for its freeride sessions when the wind establishes from the southwest to west/northwest. The spot remains small and fills up quickly as soon as the conditions are right.

However, be careful of the tricky terrain around, with its barbed wire and rocks downwind.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works ideally at high tide in the mudflat, where the water surface becomes ultra-flat for perfect freeride. The side-on to side-off winds from the southwest, west, or northwest are the best, as they allow sailing upwind of the mudflat without drifting into traps.

Launching and taking off are done at the top of the spot, on the path along the wooden fences, never from the grassy parking lot which is prohibited. Kites remain at the top of the mudflat, while windsurfers sail lower. At low tide, you must exit on the sea side, respecting the channel on the right in summer.

The spot is very small and saturates quickly with the crowd, especially in optimal conditions. In summer, a dedicated area is marked on Saint Pierre beach, monitored by lifeguards, and swimming is prohibited when rigging. Get closer to the Presqu'île Kite&Wing Club for precise information on kite and wing zones.
