Île-d’Arz

The Brouel beach is located on the southwest coast of the Île d’Arz, in the Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany. It is an isolated spot with its fine white sand and stunning views of the gulf, surrounded by a pleasant wooded environment. Facing south, it remains calm and mainly attracts locals or connoisseurs.

Kitesurfing is allowed on an experimental basis in a specific derogatory zone in front of the beach. It is easily accessible by ferry from the mainland, and the island offers a peaceful atmosphere away from the crowds of the large Breton beaches.

It is a perfect place to combine kite sessions and nature walks, with its calm waters ideal for swimming even at low tide.

Location

Detailed information

Brouel beach is oriented southwest, which favors winds from the west to southwest in side-shore or side-on, perfect for stable navigation in the sheltered gulf. The navigation area is defined by an experimental prefectural order, between the tip of Brouel and specific points to the southwest, to avoid prohibited areas of the Gulf of Morbihan. The launch is done directly from the fine sand of the beach, with a take-off zone on the west side depending on the wind.

At low tide, the water surface is very flat and you can stand far from the shore, ideal for freestyle or learning. At high tide, the water rises and the water surface remains calm but more restricted on the beach. Be cautious of other users such as kayaks, paddles, or sailboats in the gulf; respect the maximum speeds of 5 knots within 300m of the shore and 10 knots elsewhere. Currents are moderate but influenced by the strong tides of the gulf, with narrow passages towards Île aux Moines.

The gulf protects from ocean swells, offering a sheltered area to progress, but always check the weather as it changes quickly in Brittany.
