Plage du Moutchic
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The Moutchic beach, located on the Lacanau lake in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is a quiet spot bordered by pines and launch areas. It is a tolerated kitesurfing spot outside the summer season, especially when east or southeast winds pick up, which remains rare. Locals go there for calm sessions away from the ocean waves.
Close to Lacanau Océan, this inland body of water offers a contrast to the more exposed coastal spots. There are nautical stops and marked areas for navigation. The atmosphere is peaceful, ideal for those looking to sail without the crowd of the main beach.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The Moutchic beach spot is oriented for East and Southeast winds, which come directly onto the lake without too many obstacles, but these orientations remain rare. From northwest, dominant in Lacanau, the wind strengthens well along the length of the pond, but the Moutchic area can be more technical due to surrounding trees and turbulence at the launch. The navigation area is delimited by a prefectural order, with a part reserved for teaching near the Talaris marina to the north; avoid crossing the port channel and nautical stops. Launching is done from the dedicated beach, with foot depth assured as the lake is shallow. Outside the season, it is free, but in summer, navigation is regulated on the lake as well as on the ocean, with specific hours. The water remains relatively flat, perfect for freeride or freestyle, but subject to variations depending on wind direction: good from NW, unpleasant or even null from SW or East/SE outside Moutchic.
