Claquey

The Dune des Journalistes in Claouey, on the Bassin d’Arcachon in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, overlooks the port and offers an exceptional view of the calm waters. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its shallow water and easy access from Bertic beach.

Surrounded by typical natural landscapes of the basin, with its fine sandy beaches and views of Cap Ferret, this place attracts riders all year round, especially outside the summer season.

Relaxed atmosphere in winter, more lively in summer with local kite schools.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works well with winds from Northeast to Southwest, ideal in side-shore from the NE or West coming perpendicular to the basin. In East winds, it is perfect for powerful sessions as the water surface remains sheltered from ocean waves.

Launching is done directly from the sandy beach under the dune, with a wide and clear take-off area. Navigation in shallow water until high tide, you can stand everywhere in winter, perfect for waterstarts and first runs.

Navigation area is marked by buoys and the port channel, to be strictly respected to avoid drifting. Usable 3 hours before and after high tide, the water surface goes from flat to slightly choppy at low tide. Beware of boat traffic in summer, stay in the authorized zones.
