Arcachon

The plage des Arbousiers in Arcachon, located opposite Cap Ferret, is a beautiful spot in the Arcachon basin. Locals consider it one of the most beautiful beaches in the area for its stunning view and natural setting.

At low tide, sandbanks form a calm lagoon ideal for progression. The spot is easily accessible with parking right next to it, although a size limit restricts access for large vehicles.

The beach shrinks significantly at high tide, even disappearing depending on the coefficient, which requires arriving early to have space to set up.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works well with winds from North to South-West passing through West and North-West, often in side-on or side-shore relative to the beach facing north-west. At low tide, the water surface is completely flat for over a kilometer with standing water everywhere, perfect for maneuvers and freestyle in the small pools formed by the sandbanks.

Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, and the navigation area extends far from the shore to avoid the dyke and obstacles. Take-off is done on the beach at low tide, but it is prohibited on the grass despite the lawn being convenient for preparing gear and avoiding sand in the bag.

At high tide, the water surface becomes choppy with marked chop and strong currents at the entrance of the basin, reserved for experienced riders. In the summer season from July 1 to August 31, a navigation channel is marked: you must stay within the 300-meter band and only use it to exit after 7 PM. Beware of gusts from the South wind, making the spot technical, and the numerous moorings and anchored boats.
