Bonifacio

The beach of Stagnolu, near Bonifacio in Southern Corsica, is a wild cove surrounded by granite rocks. It charms with its pink coral sand and clear water, in a preserved natural setting.

Accessible by a footpath from Tonnara beach, it offers a sought-after tranquility, away from the crowds. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing in the extreme south of the island, at the Strait of Bonifacio.

Surrounded by white dunes and bordered by the coastal path towards Cap de Fenu, it invites navigation when the wind picks up.

Location

Detailed information

The beach of Stagnolu benefits from varied exposure due to its position in the Strait of Bonifacio, between Corsica and Sardinia. Dominant winds like the Mistral or Libeccio often blow side-on or side-shore depending on the direction, making the spot rideable every other two or three days in summer.

Water entry is directly from the fine sandy beach, but be cautious of the somewhat steep foot access. The navigation area extends 300 meters wide, with a water surface generally chop to flat protected by rocks, ideal for jumps and freestyle when the wind is thermal.

Takeoff is easy on the wide sand, but care must be taken regarding downwind space towards rocky areas. Tides have little impact here, the bottom dropping quickly allows for free navigation from mid-tide. In case of strong south-west wind, it becomes side-off quickly, perfect for short waves.
