Bonifacio

The Tamaris beach, located in the Gulf of Sant’Amanza in Bonifacio, South Corsica, is a small crescent-shaped sandy beach with a beautiful view of the cliffs. It is easily accessible via the D58, about fifteen minutes from the center of Bonifacio, and attracts many visitors in summer with its beach hut.

It is a kitesurfing spot used with west winds, in an area known for its frequent winds. The parking is right in front, next to the restaurant, and the beach offers a family-friendly setting with its fine sand.

Close to iconic spots like Piantarella or Ventilegne, it allows for navigation in a sheltered bay surrounded by nature.

Location

Detailed information

The Tamaris beach mainly works with west wind, the most frequent in Bonifacio, which comes in side-on or slightly onshore depending on the strength, making the water surface quickly choppy offshore but more protected in the bay. The launch area is directly from the fine sand, with a wide take-off zone on the north beach accessible by car. The navigation area extends in the Gulf of Sant’Amanza, staying upwind of the beach to avoid shallow areas and bathers in summer; you can ride in open water towards the south but be careful of the cliffs.

With east wind, it is rarer but possible in pure offshore, with a flat water surface ideal for jumps. Tides have little impact in the Mediterranean, but at low tide the bottom is sandier and you can stand for a long time; at high tide, the water rises to facilitate jibes. In the summer season, the beach is crowded with tourists, so prefer the edges or early morning sessions for launching. Conditions can change quickly: light thermal during the day, reinforced by the Libecciu in autumn.
