Porto-Vecchio

The Palombaggia beach, located in Porto-Vecchio in Southern Corsica, is a postcard scene with its crystal-clear waters and view of the Cerbicales islands. Surrounded by pine trees and fine white sand, it stretches for several kilometers with peaceful little creeks. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing thanks to its sheltered water and sandbanks.

Close to Santa Giulia, it offers a paradise setting to combine kite sessions and relaxation with family or friends. The pines shade the beach and the transparent seabed attracts snorkeling enthusiasts between sessions.

Less crowded than its neighbors in the low season, it remains lively in summer with nearby nautical clubs to rent gear or take lessons.

Location

Detailed information

Palombaggia beach is oriented southeast, ideal for a side-on wind coming from the south, south-southwest, or southwest that pushes directly onto the beach without too much onshore. The water surface is generally flat to chop thanks to the bay sheltered by sandbanks and shallow waters, perfect for freestylers or beginners in flat water. The launch area is easily accessible on the fine sand without rocks, with a wide take-off zone at the edge of the beach under the pines.

The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, with shallows that create flat water even in moderate wind, but be cautious of bathers in high season who occupy the shore. There are no strong tides in the Mediterranean, so the spot works well all day, better in the morning when the thermal rises from the southeast. Sessions often last one day out of two in summer, with a regular wind that picks up around noon.

Local feature: the shifting sandbanks create calm water areas ideal for waterstarts and jibes, but you need to navigate wide to avoid fishing zones or anchored boats. Easy access by car, shaded parking, and schools in Santa Giulia 10 minutes away for gear or lessons.

Risks & Safety

  • Many bathers in summer occupy the area near the shore, to be absolutely avoided.

  • Some rocks are exposed at the ends of the beach, stay in the center for navigation.

  • Small boats and anchored fishermen offshore, go wide and signal your presence.
