Bonifacio

The Balistra beach, located on the east coast of Bonifacio in Southern Corsica, is a kitesurfing spot accessible a few kilometers from the city. Facing due east, it offers a natural setting with its white sand, clear waters, and a beach bar for refreshments. Classified as a natural beach, it is supervised in summer and equipped with a ramp for people with reduced mobility.

The free parking makes access easy from Bonifacio, Porto-Vecchio, or Figari. It is a family-friendly place appreciated for sliding, with schools like Bonifacio Windsurf offering wingfoil and windsurfing, even though the kite school Nustrale Ride closed in 2023.

The spot has hosted events like the Défi Wind Foil Corsica, connecting Balistra to Lavezzi and Piantarella.

Location

Detailed information

Balistra beach is oriented due east, which offers varied conditions depending on the wind direction. In west wind (offshore), the water surface is completely flat thanks to the venturi effect that enhances the regularity and strength of the wind, ideal for freestyle or coaching with a safety boat. The launch area is directly from the sandy beach, wide and easy to access, with a large takeoff area upwind of the beach.

In east wind (onshore from the sea), the spot becomes a true freeride with small waves animating the navigation, perfect for progressing in beginner wave riding. The navigation area extends offshore or along the cliffs of Capu Biancu on the right, but be careful to stay upwind to avoid wind-sheltered areas. The pond behind the beach serves as a calm area for initiation or paddleboarding, while the right side allows for downwinds towards Canetu.

The current remains weak in general, but the Mediterranean tides have little impact on the water surface which remains navigable at any time. Autonomous riders navigate under the supervision of local schools, with intervention in case of problems. Prefer morning or late sessions in summer to avoid tourist crowds.
