South Boston

Pleasure Bay, located in South Boston, Massachusetts, is an iconic spot on the east coast of the United States, nestled near Castle Island. This place offers a unique setting with its perfectly flat and glassy waters, although the water quality can sometimes be dirty. It is a spot beloved by local riders for its consistent wind and laid-back atmosphere, despite the frequent presence of beachgoers.

The spot is easily accessible by car, with free parking but limited in summer. The launch is usually done next to the rock wall, on the beach, right where the beach ends and the wall begins. One must be careful of the rocks underwater and avoid the northern area where rocks are exposed.

Location

Detailed information

Pleasure Bay, also known as "the Lagoon", is a world-class spot for kiteboarding due to its flat waters and ideal wind coming from Boston Harbor. The recommended wind for kitesurfing comes mainly from the NE, ENE, E, and SW. The water is tidal, but always overhead, even at low tide. At low tide, the water becomes deeper near the jetty of the beach, but one must watch for rocks underwater.

The launch is done next to the rock wall, on the beach, near where the beach ends. The takeoff is adjacent to the wall, but always on the beach. The spot is forbidden in July and August during the day, and no kitesurfing is allowed when lifeguards are present (summer, 10 AM to 6 PM). One must respect beachgoers, as there can be many.
