El Médano - Playa El Salado
Espagne · Canary Islands
Playa El Salado is a small beach located on the northeast side of El Médano, in Tenerife. It is a popular spot for kitesurfers and windsurfers when the conditions are right. The sand mixes with lava stones, creating a somewhat rough terrain in places.
The beach offers a fantastic view and a calm atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle. A small beach bar allows you to refresh yourself after the session. Locals appreciate its tranquil side despite the proximity to El Médano.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
Playa El Salado faces east, making it ideal for NE and E winds in side-on or side-shore. The water surface is generally choppy to flat depending on wind strength, with little impact from tides as it is an open beach to the ocean. Launching is done directly from the sand mixed with stones, easy for experienced riders but to be monitored for beginners due to the uneven terrain.
The riding area extends along the beach towards the northeast of El Médano, with enough space for freeride or freestyle sessions. Takeoff is done on the beach itself, near the bar, where there are often people to help. Be cautious of sporadic swimmers and rocky areas on the sides; stay offshore to avoid conflicts with local fishermen. In strong wind, the chop can rise quickly, making technical jibes challenging.
