Santo-Pietro-di-Tenda

Saleccia beach, located in the Agriates desert in Upper Corsica, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. With over a kilometer of fine white sand bordered by Aleppo pines and fragrant maquis, it is a true preserved paradise. The difficult access to this spot ensures a certain tranquility and a unique wild atmosphere.

What characterizes Saleccia is its deliberate isolation. No direct road, no intrusive shops, just a dream beach with crystal clear turquoise water. You can regularly encounter Corsican cows that come to nap by the beach, which adds to the authentic charm of the place. It is a spot that is earned, but truly worth it.

Location

Detailed information

Saleccia is a kitesurfing area with particular conditions related to its geography. The dominant wind comes from the northwest, creating side-shore to side-on conditions depending on seasonal variations. The water surface is generally flat to slightly choppy depending on weather conditions and sea state.

Access to the spot is either by boat from Saint-Florent (20 to 30 minutes crossing) or on foot from Lotu beach via the coastal path (about 4 km, 55 minutes). The launch is directly on the sandy beach, with an easy take-off. The navigation area extends along the entire length of the beach, but one must be aware that it is a wild spot without immediate rescue infrastructure.

Conditions vary by season. In summer, the wind can be regular but sometimes weak. In winter and spring, conditions improve with more consistent winds. The general current is weak, but one must remain vigilant and well aware of local conditions before heading out.

Risks & Safety

  • Access to the spot is difficult and isolated: make sure to have enough water, food, and emergency equipment before you go.

  • There is no immediate rescue infrastructure on site, so good physical condition and minimal experience are recommended.

  • The path from Lotu beach crosses dense maquis: wear appropriate shoes and be careful on steep slopes.

  • If you come by 4x4 via the track from Casta, it is very bumpy and reserved for true 4x4s: do not attempt the adventure with a standard car.

  • The Corsican cows present on the beach are generally harmless but should be respected and kept at a proper distance.

  • Check the schedules of the maritime shuttles before leaving, as they mainly operate from April to October.
