Barfleur

The plage de la Masse in Barfleur, Normandy, is a discreet spot on the tip of Hague, exposed to the English Channel. It features fine sand typical of the Normandy coast and a view of the historic port of Barfleur, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. It is a calm place, favored by locals for its simplicity and proximity to hiking trails.

The spot offers a good balance between riding and exploration, with consistent winds that attract riders looking for freeride sessions. The beach remains uncrowded, even in season, allowing for full enjoyment of the conditions without the crowd.

Location

Detailed information

The spot at plage de la Masse mainly works with winds from SE, W, NW, and North, in side-shore or side-on depending on the direction, ideal for freeride or speed. In west winds, stay cautious and avoid going too far into the bay to prevent being underpowered or encountering turbulent winds that complicate the return. Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, easily accessible, with a wide take-off area but exposed to rocks on the sides. The water surface varies with the tides: more organized and navigable at low tide where you can stand far out, while at high tide, small waves form. The navigation areas are central, staying close to the beach to avoid the rocky northern and southern areas; expect enough space to maneuver without disturbing local fishermen or bathers in summer.
