Playa Blanca is a kitesurfing spot located in Punta Cana, in the province of La Altagracia in the Dominican Republic. This private beach offers a paradise-like setting with its white sand and crystal-clear water, close to the international airport.
It is a popular spot for riders due to its shallow water and winds from NE to ENE, although the wind is not always reliable. A local kite club provides supervision and basic amenities.
The spot mainly attracts experts due to the surrounding reefs, but it remains accessible to all levels in deep water.

chopThe dominant wind comes from NE, NNE, and ENE, providing a perfect side-shore wind for the southeast-facing beach. More wind early in the morning or late in the evening due to thermal and trade winds, with possible sessions of 10-20 knots in season. The water is flat and shallow with small to medium waves on the reefs, ideal for freeride or tricks in shallow water.
Launching and taking off are done in the dedicated kite zone in the middle of the beach, of medium size, between the palm trees and swimmers. Avoid swimming areas and respect priority rules. In deep water, it is navigable for all, but low tide brings the reefs very close to the surface, making navigation technical.
Paid access to the beach, free registration required at the club for the liability waiver. The club offers compressor, showers, grassy area, rescue boat (paid outside membership) and sun loungers. No fees for riding alone, but services are extra.
Ideal conditions with winds NE to ENE of 15-25 knots, stable side-shore. Avoid rare and risky westerlies offshore.
Water conditions are flat to choppy inside, with small to medium waves on the outer reefs. Very shallow water, perfect for beginners in deep water, but shallow at low tide.
Currents are generally weak along the beach. Beware of areas near the reefs where they can accelerate with the tide. Moderate tides, with high tide recommended for more safety.
Opt for sizes 11 to 16 m² in typical light winds, or 9-12 m² in windier sessions. Adjust according to your weight and style.
The trade winds and thermal winds dominate, stronger in the morning and evening. Best months: November to April and July-August, average winds of 15-20 knots from the NE. The rest of the year, light breezes of 8-10 knots, better for foiling.
The tropical climate of Punta Cana offers consistent temperatures around 25-28°C year-round. Dry season from December to April with little rain, and wet season from May to November, but showers are brief. Ideal for riding in winter with stable conditions.
The depth is very gradual and shallow with sandy bottom and reefs. You can stand for a long time from the shore, ideal for relaunching.
Water temperatures are warm year-round between 25-28°C, no need for a wetsuit. Slightly higher in summer around 28°C.
