Playa Neptuno
Dominican Republic · Puerto Plata
Playa Neptuno, located in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, is a beach open to the Atlantic Ocean near the lively tourist area. It is a spot less frequented by kiters, who prefer Cabarete about twenty minutes to the southeast.
The beach offers fine sand and a view of the neighboring resorts, with direct access from the coastal road. The atmosphere is calm outside of tourists, ideal for a relaxed session.
Close to La Puntilla, this spot sometimes attracts surfers when conditions are right, but remains discreet for kitesurfing.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The dominant wind comes from the east to northeast, providing perfect side-onshore conditions on this northwest-facing beach. The water surface is generally flat to choppy near the shore, with small to medium waves further out depending on the Atlantic swell.
Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, easy even for intermediates. The riding area extends along the coast, but one must remain vigilant near the navigation channel that cuts through the reef nearby. Takeoff is simple on the wide sand, with crosswind pushing out to sea.
In windy season, the wind picks up around noon and stays strong until 4-5 PM, with possible gusts. Watch for wave areas at La Puntilla nearby if drifting north. The outer reef creates a more sheltered water surface inside, but choppy with the constant trade wind.
