Lagoinha

Nestled between Paracuru and Flecheiras, Lagoinha is a true postcard of the Northeast. Ochre cliffs, coconut trees lined up for miles, endless fine sand, and a constant wind that never stops. The spot is less known than Cumbuco or Jericoacoara, but that’s exactly what makes it charming: a peaceful, authentic, and incredibly photogenic place where kiting takes place in an almost unreal setting. The village overlooks the sea from a panoramic cliff, and the beach stretches below for several kilometers. At low tide, the sea reveals wide areas of perfectly flat wet sand, forming shallow water pools — an ideal playground for freestyle. At high tide, the swell awakens and brings some movement, without ever making navigation difficult.

The atmosphere is relaxed, almost family-like. The local kiteschools, often run by passionate individuals who have been around for years, offer personalized lessons and know the spot by heart. In the evening, we gather in the pousadas perched on the cliff to admire the sunset, the sails still sparkling on the water below.

Location

Detailed information

Lagoinha offers a varied water surface, adaptable to all styles. In front of the village, the beach is vast, without obstacles or rocks, with a constant side-on wind coming from the east. At low tide, the spot becomes magical: large stretches of calm water form between the sandbanks. This is the ideal time to work on your technique, learn to go upwind, or try your first jumps safely. At medium or high tide, the sea takes back its rights and forms a slight regular chop, perfect for freeride or playing in the small waves further out. The wind remains of exemplary stability and allows for all-day navigation. The sandy bottom, the absence of dangerous currents, and the width of the beach make it a particularly pleasant place to progress. Downwinds to Flecheiras or Mundaú are also very popular: about ten kilometers of wild coast, constant wind, and endless dune landscapes.

Risks & Safety

  • No particular danger at this spot.
  • The bottom is sandy, the space is vast, and the wind always brings you back to the beach.
  • Only precaution: at low tide, the sea recedes far, making the shore sometimes narrower.
  • However, the natural safety of the side-on wind makes navigation extremely reassuring.
  • No official rescue, but local kiteschools always keep an eye on the riders.
  • Be sure to protect yourself from the sun: the spot is exposed all day, without natural shade.
