Switzerland · Lucerne
Sempach, on the shores of Lac de Sempach near Lucerne in central Switzerland, is a calm spot with a beautiful accessible beach. There is a well-equipped campsite right next to it, ideal for combining kite sessions and family relaxation. The environment is peaceful, surrounded by nature and perfect for cycling around the lake.
Despite potential winds, kitesurfing has been prohibited here since 2011 by the canton of Lucerne, with strict restrictions on distances and zones. The northern part of the lake is sometimes mentioned, but the activity remains generally prohibited.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The most favorable winds come from the west to northwest, side-shore relative to the east-facing beach, which would allow for a good pull if it were permitted. The water surface is generally flat to chop on this inland lake without tides, with open areas to navigate far from the shore. Launching is done from the wide sandy beach of the TCS Sempach campsite, with easy take-off on the nearby grass. However, be aware that navigation is limited to a minimum distance of 300m from the shore in certain areas, and prohibited in natural reserves or near aquatic plants. Motorboats are rare and regulated, but traffic remains a potential risk in high season.
