Berlingen

Berlingen is a kitesurfing spot located on the Untersee, the lower part of Lake Constance, in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. It is a place favored by intermediate riders looking for calmer and more sheltered conditions than the main Bodensee. The spot benefits from a well-developed residential peninsula and shallow turquoise-green waters.

The Untersee offers a more sheltered environment than the main lake, with regular thermal conditions. It is an ideal spot for progression without facing the often more demanding conditions of the Bodensee. Access is easy from Kreuzlingen via the railway to Berlingen, then turning immediately right to access the parking areas.

Location

Detailed information

Berlingen offers side-shore to side-on conditions depending on the dominant wind directions. The water body is slightly choppy with shallow and protected waters, ideal for intermediate riders. Launching is easy from the designated parking areas, and the launch zone is well cleared.

The spot benefits from regular thermal conditions that generate wind in the afternoon, particularly in the summer season. The Untersee is more sheltered than the main Bodensee, making conditions more predictable and less chaotic. However, it should be noted that the reliability of the wind remains moderate with average speeds around 4-5 knots in normal conditions. The ideal wind directions are W, WSW, NW, NNW, NNE, NE, and N, which offer the best orientations relative to the bay.
