Informations utiles
The main wind comes from the southwest in summer season (May to October), blowing side-on relative to the lagoon for a butter flat water surface. In winter (December to February), it shifts to northwest with more moderate speeds, still favorable for the lagoon.
Launching takes place on a green grassy area directly from the chalets, leading to a wide navigation area of several hundred meters. The lagoon is separated from the Indian Ocean by a thin sandbar, allowing for a switch to choppy conditions or small waves on the sea side.
High tide recommended for optimal space, with a max depth of 1.5 m. Takeoff and landing require experience due to the exposed edge; local schools provide fast boat transfers (15 min). Notable feature: kicker and slider installed in the middle for advanced wakestyle.
Ideal conditions of 15-25 knots southwest side-on for maximum power and flat. Northwest 12-20 knots perfect for long sessions in winter.
Ultra flat water surface in the lagoon, ideal for freestyle and learning. On the sea side, light chop forming kickers, or small clean waves on the reef less than 100 m away.
Currents are weak in the lagoon due to its confinement. On the ocean side, they remain moderate but be cautious of tidal changes.
Semidiurnal tides with low amplitude (1-2 m), high tide preferred for free navigation.
Opt for 9 m² sizes in strong summer winds, or 12 m² in lighter winter season. Adjust according to weight and level to take advantage of the flat.
The wind regime is reliable for 9 months: powerful southwest 18-30 knots from May to October, northwest 12-25 knots from December to April. Thermal force in the afternoon, particularly clean on Mandala Kuda.
No specific local name, but the direct sea breeze ensures consistent power without excessive gusts in the lagoon.
The tropical climate of Kalpitiya is warm year-round, with temperatures around 28-32°C during the day. Dry season from May to October for strong winds, northeast monsoon from December to March is milder but reliable.
High humidity, but the lagoons offer a pleasant microclimate for long riding sessions.
Progressive and shallow depth, max 1.5 m at the center of the lagoon with a sandy bottom. Footing everywhere at low tide near the shore.
Warm water year-round at 27-30°C, no need for a wetsuit in summer. Slightly cooler 25-28°C in winter.
