Riantec

The beach of Riantec, located in Morbihan in Brittany, is a long stretch of fine sand facing the petite mer de Gâvres. It is a spot where kitesurfing dominates, with a campsite just behind the dunes for convenient stays.

The entry into the water is flat, making it easy for all levels to launch. Close to Lorient, it offers a protected natural setting, ideal for quiet sessions off-season.

The spot attracts riders for its exposure to west winds and its preserved environment, despite some restrictions related to local wildlife.

Location

Detailed information

The beach of Riantec mainly works with a west wind, which arrives in a perfect side-shore orientation relative to the east-west orientation of the beach, favoring a consistent water surface in the petite mer de Gâvres. Launching is done directly from the flat sand, with a wide take-off area on the beach itself, but care must be taken to stay within the marked zones to avoid prohibitions. The navigation area extends into the sheltered bay, where freeride dominates thanks to a calm water surface, particularly at high tide when the water well covers the sandbank. At low tide, the space reduces but remains navigable with standing room in a large part of the area. Sessions are optimal at mid-tide for better space and fewer risks related to seagrass or dried-out areas. Be cautious of exits towards the Atlantic Ocean which may be exposed to the currents of the ria d'Étel.
