Kerguélen

The Kerguélen beach, located in Larmor-Plage near Lorient in southern Brittany, is one of the most accessible kitesurfing spots in Morbihan. This beach offers an ideal setting for kite practice with parking just 30 meters from the shore and immediate proximity to about forty spots with varying depths.

The spot is distinguished by its flat water at low tide, particularly appreciated by riders seeking freestyle and freeride. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a good local crowd and nearby kitesurfing schools for beginners looking to improve.

Location

Detailed information

Kerguélen primarily works with winds from West to Southwest, creating a side-shore to side-on orientation depending on the precise conditions. The spot is usable at low tide, when the water surface becomes particularly flat and accessible, ideal for freestyle and progression. At high tide, the beach shrinks but remains navigable for experienced riders.

The take-off and landing area is well cleared near the parking lot, but one must be vigilant of the trees present nearby that can hinder maneuvers. The spot offers a beautiful navigation area in the bay with easy access to the water. Conditions are generally stable and regular, making it an excellent choice for progression.

Risks & Safety

  • Trees are present near the take-off and landing area, particularly to the north of the spot. One must adjust their trajectories to avoid them.
  • Rocks are present on the left side of the beach and must be navigated around.
  • The significant presence of boats in the area requires constant vigilance to avoid collisions.
  • During strong west swells, a shorebreak can form and make access to the water more difficult.
