The bay of Pont-Mahé works with winds from southwest to west, with the best conditions achieved with a west wind. The southwest orientation of the bay allows it to receive all dominant winds, offering a side-shore to side-on depending on the precise wind direction. It is a protected bay that offers easy and safe freeride conditions.
The tides play a crucial role at Pont-Mahé. At low tide, the spot is not navigable due to insufficient water. A minimum of 2.50 meters of water is required with a bit of walking, or 3.5 to 4 meters to avoid too much walking. At high tide, the available space for landing and launching kites reduces significantly, with very little beach. It is therefore crucial to plan your session according to the tide schedules.
The spot is open all year round, but specific zones must be respected. In front of the access path, there is a swimming zone to avoid. The take-off and navigation zones are located to the left from spring to the end of summer. Off-season, these restrictions are lifted. Kitesurfing schools and nautical clubs offer courses and training accessible to all ages.
