Pipa

Pipa is undoubtedly one of the most famous coastal villages in Brazil. Once a haven for fishermen and surfers, it has become over the years a must-visit destination for those who love the sea, nature, and wind. Nestled at the foot of ochre and red cliffs, surrounded by lush vegetation, Praia do Amor is the main spot for kitesurfing — a place of almost unreal beauty. The name of the beach comes from its shape seen from above: a perfect heart sculpted by the waves and the tide. It is a spot that is both technical and poetic, where the wind, the swell, and the colors blend in a vibrant atmosphere. Riders come here to feel the power of the ocean, play with the waves, and enjoy the constant wind from the Brazilian northeast in a postcard-like setting. The village, perched on the heights, offers a lively and cosmopolitan atmosphere: restaurants, music, charming pousadas, and a community of surfers, kitesurfers, and travelers from around the world. Kitesurfing in Pipa is above all a sensory experience, a mix of wind, light, and freedom.

Location

Detailed information

Praia do Amor is an open sea spot directly exposed to the Atlantic Ocean. The east to northeast wind, side-on, blows between 16 and 24 knots, stronger between August and December. The water surface is choppy with beautiful regular waves of 1 to 2 meters, sometimes more during swell periods. At low tide, the sea recedes slightly and offers smoother sections between sets. At high tide, the waves become more powerful, perfect for surfkite or strapless. The sandy bottom remains comfortable, but the waves sometimes break close to the shore: launching requires a bit of attention. It is a rather technical spot, recommended for intermediate and advanced riders, especially when the swell strengthens. But for those who master it, Pipa offers unique sensations: jumps over the waves, perfect surfing in the slanting light, and an incredible view of the cliffs from the water.

Risks & Safety

  • Spot safe but technical.
  • Powerful waves at high tide: be sure to observe before entering the water.
  • Notable current in the southern area: avoid going too far downwind.
  • No rocks or coral, but shifting bottom depending on the tide.
  • No organized rescue, but several local kite and surf centers ensure a presence on the beach.
  • This is not a learning spot, but a beautiful playground for experienced riders.
