São Miguel do Gostoso

Two hours' drive north of Natal, São Miguel do Gostoso is an iconic kitesurfing village in Brazil. Its name alone is a promise: "the taste of good", and that’s exactly what you find here — wind, light, serenity, and a very special energy. The main spot, Ponta do Santo Cristo, stretches across a vast bay of blonde sand, protected to the north by a land point that shapes the wind and swell. It’s a huge spot, perfectly oriented for east wind, offering exceptional sailing conditions: flat, choppy, small waves, endless downwinds — everything is possible here. The atmosphere reflects the village: relaxed, welcoming, and focused on sliding. The streets are still sandy, the pousadas charming, and the locals smiling. In the evening, everyone gathers to admire the sunset over the bay, a daily spectacle that reminds why Gostoso is one of the most loved spots in Brazil.

Location

Detailed information

Ponta do Santo Cristo is an ultra-versatile spot that appeals to both freeriders and freestylers or surfers. To the south of the bay, the sea is regular choppy, with small spaced waves, ideal for fluid and fast freeride. In the center, the water is flat at low tide, protected by the natural shape of the coast: a joy for freestyle and precision tricks. To the north, the swell slightly rises around the point, offering beautiful clean waves for surfkite. The east to northeast wind, side-on, blows between 18 and 28 knots, warm, constant, and perfectly laminar. The wide sandy beach facilitates take-offs and landings, and the gradual depth makes sailing accessible to all levels. Downwinds are very popular: from Gostoso to Tourinhos, or even towards Galinhos for the more motivated — dozens of kilometers of deserted coast swept by perfect wind. It’s a lively, varied, and extremely regular spot, where you can sail from morning to evening without ever getting bored.

  • At high tide, the chop slightly increases.
  • The bottom is sandy everywhere, no rocks or coral.
  • No official rescue, but the kite centers in Gostoso provide vigilant and professional monitoring.
  • It’s a 100 % secure spot: side-on wind, wide beach, flat bottom — hard to be more reassuring.
