The Lagoon of Macau, nestled near the Ilha da Ponta do Tubarão, is a hidden gem of the Brazilian Northeast. Surrounded by golden dunes, mangroves, and sparkling salt flats, this natural lagoon offers a perfectly flat water area swept by offshore trade winds. It is a still-preserved spot, little frequented, where nature reigns supreme. The conditions are ideal for freestyle, foil, and progression sessions in a setting worthy of a movie. Access is via a sandy track from Macau or Guamaré, and the atmosphere is calm, almost unreal.

Location

Detailed information

The lagoon fills at high tide and remains navigable for most of the day. The wind from east to southeast blows side-onshore, strong and consistent. The water is flat to ultra-flat in the center, slightly choppy at the edges under gusts. The depth is shallow and regular, with a sandy bottom. It is a dream spot for freestyle, with no obstacles or currents. Outside the lagoon, the nearby beach of Ponta do Tubarão allows for beautiful downwinds along the dunes.
