Macapá

The beach of Macapá, in the State of Amapá, is a kitesurfing spot that is still quite preserved on the north coast of Brazil. It has a simple and local atmosphere, with direct access to a large sailing area and often pleasant conditions for freeride.

The spot is appreciated for its warm water, its consistent wind for a large part of the season, and the possibility to sail in a very natural setting. Depending on the tide, the water can range from a rather flat surface to a more varied area, with sections suitable for both leisurely rides and more intense sessions.

Location

Detailed information

The spot mainly works with wind from the E to NE sector, and according to local feedback, it can also work very well in SE. The beach is generally navigable in side-on to side-shore depending on the precise orientation of the flow, which facilitates departure and return to the shore. Available data confirms frequent wind from July to December, with a peak of regularity between August and November.

At low tide, one often enjoys a very flat water surface in areas protected by sandbanks. At high tide, the water transforms and some areas become deeper and more irregular, with passages close to the mangrove. Launching is done from the beach, with plenty of space to rig and take off, but one must choose their area based on water level and tide.

Macapá is also known for its long downwind rides and crossings to neighboring spots. The playground is vast, but one must remain attentive to rapid changes related to the tide and sandbanks that alter the spot's configuration throughout the day.
