Maceio

Pontal de Maceió, on the east coast of Ceará, is a peaceful village located about ten kilometers from Fortim. It is a unique place, both authentic and refined, with its large lagoon measuring 2 km by 5 km that attracts kiters from around the world.

The spot changes with the tides, offering flat water at low tide for freestyle and waves at high tide for surf sessions. The constant trade winds make it a reliable location for long and varied sessions.

Close to Fortaleza, accessible by 4x4 or buggy, it combines tranquility and ideal conditions for all levels.

Location

Detailed information

The dominant trade winds come from NE, ENE, and E, side-on to side-off in the morning then side-onshore in the afternoon, often strengthening at the end of the day for explosive sessions. At low tide, the lagoon offers a vast flat water and shallow area, perfect for freestyle, wakestyle, or learning, with feet everywhere.

The launch is directly from the sandy beach of the lagoon, with a wide and obstacle-free take-off zone. At high tide, the spot transforms into a wave spot with small to medium waves at the mouth of the Rio Jaguaribe, ideal for kitesurfing or strapless surfing; you can also navigate on the adjacent ocean.

The navigation area extends over several km², with calm waters in the lagoon and choppy at the edges; priority to local fishermen at the central launch. Conditions are independent of tides for kiting, but low tide is preferred for pure flat.

Risks & Safety

  • Give priority to fishermen at the central launch area for good cohabitation.

  • At high tide, be cautious of the current more pronounced at the mouth of the river.

  • Stay within the marked zones of the lagoon to avoid ocean waves if you are a beginner.
