Milford

Walnut Beach, located on the Connecticut coast in Milford, offers an open and clear setting with over a mile long. It is a spot popular with locals for its consistent onshore wind and laid-back atmosphere near the sea. The beach is entirely sandy with a decent width, making it ideal for setup and launching.

Walnut Beach is the widest public beach in western Connecticut. There are jetties and piers, but the beach remains very accessible with nearby parking areas. A cute little shop near the water offers bike rentals to explore the area, adding an authentic touch to the local experience.

Location

Detailed information

The wind at Walnut Beach is mainly onshore, with an ideal orientation coming from the NNE (North-Northeast) for a side-on effect relative to the beach. The water is flat with chop and small waves, varying with the tides: more pronounced chop at high tide and flatter at low tide. The launch area is near the first jetty by walking east, with accessible parking right next to it.

Navigation areas are wide and open, with no major obstacles except for the jetties and piers. Launching is done directly on the sandy beach, with good visibility on the horizon. Local features include the presence of the Devon Rotary Pavilion which offers shade, as well as picnic benches for resting after the session.
