Lac de Neuchâtel

The Pins beach of Yvonand, on Lake Neuchâtel in Vaud, Switzerland, resembles Mediterranean coasts with its fine sand, gentle slope, and pine forest. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its generous space and easy access.

Surrounded by greenery, it offers a peaceful setting ideal for relaxing between sessions. The shallow bay and surrounding reeds make it a perfect place to progress.

Locals particularly appreciate the regular bise that animates the spot during the season.

Location

Detailed information

The spot only works with the bise, a wind from North to Northeast that often blows regularly and thermally over Lake Neuchâtel. It is an onshore to light onshore wind relative to the south-facing beach, which facilitates take-offs from the large sandy area but requires attention for landings in case of gusts.

Entry into the water is directly from Pins beach, with a gradual entry without obstacles. The navigation area is wide and spacious on the bay of Yvonand, ideal for maneuvers and jumps, but you must stay clear of the reeds lining the sides. No significant lake tide, so the water surface remains constant: flat water to light chop depending on wind strength.

In strong bise, the spot can become very busy, especially on weekends, with up to hundreds of kites in high season, which requires careful navigation and respect for zones. For beginners, the shallow depth allows for safe proximity to the shore.
