The spot works best with an east to northeast wind, blowing side-on to side-shore relative to the estuary entrance, providing a water surface protected from ocean swell. The main riding area is inside the estuary, with easy access from the sandy banks near Scott Park. Favor medium to high tide to maximize water surface and avoid exposed muddy areas at low tide.
At high tide, the water becomes a bit more chop behind the sandbars, but remains mostly flat in the center. The launch area is spacious and tidal, with good space for launching without obstruction. Be cautious in the southwest corners where the wind can turn offshore and complicate the return; stay in the central area for safe and fun sessions.
