Olhuveli

Sunrise Bar is part of the Sun Siyam Olhuveli resort, in the Malé Atoll, and it is a convenient landmark for riders navigating this area. The setting is simple, with the beach, the main pool nearby, and direct access to the water from the main island.

On-site, the atmosphere is clearly oriented towards resort comfort, with easy navigation organized around the wind, transfers, and breaks between sessions. For kitesurfing, it is mainly an interesting spot when the conditions are well set and one is looking for accessible water in a protected environment.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works best with a side-on to side-shore wind depending on the beach orientation and navigation area, with cleaner behavior when the wind comes from the NE to ESE sector and then from the NW to W in this sector of the atoll. The water surface is generally choppy, with an irregular surface that becomes more comfortable when the wind is consistent and the swell is absent. The departure is from the resort beach, with a practical launch area but to be managed properly due to other users and the hotel configuration.

The spot is mainly navigated on a band of water close to the shore, with a clearance area to be respected to avoid swimming zones and the pontoon edges. When the tide rises, access becomes more pleasant and navigation simpler near the edge, while at lower tide some areas can be more technical due to the bottom and obstacles close to the shore. One must remain attentive to traffic around the resort, swimmers, and areas reserved for water activities.

Experienced riders find a decent terrain to work on runs and transitions, while beginners should choose a calm and clear day, as the water surface remains lively as soon as the wind strengthens. It is a spot where the quality of the session depends greatly on the wind direction and the tide.
