Corfu

Paralia Halikounas, on the southwest coast of Corfu, is a spot highly appreciated by local riders for its wild setting and consistent wind. The large sandy beach is backed by the Korission lagoon, making it a simple and pleasant playground for kitesurfing.

It is a spot known for its tranquil atmosphere, with moderate traffic and a good place to rig. People come here to ride in good conditions without the hustle and bustle of the more urban spots on the island.

Location

Detailed information

The spot mainly works with a side-shore to side-on wind depending on the orientation, with a very good performance from a NW flow in summer, but it also accepts other directions based on local reading of the spot. Sources confirm an open beach to the wind, with easy launching from the sand and a wide navigation area.

One can ride on the sea side, with a choppy to formed water surface when the wind comes in well, or enjoy the more sheltered area towards the Korission lagoon for calmer evolutions depending on the exact location and wind evolution. The beach is sandy, with shallow water at the start, making takeoff and return to shore easier. However, one must remain attentive to the swimming area and keep a good distance from other users.

The spot is accessible, but it is more comfortable for independent riders as the wind rises around 20 to 25 knots. With weaker wind, the water surface becomes simpler and cleaner, but setting up a session depends heavily on the thermal and the actual direction of the flow.
