Courseulles-sur-Mer

The beach of Courseulles-sur-Mer, on the Côte de Nacre in Normandy, is a kitesurfing spot accessible between Ouistreham and Arromanches. It offers a large expanse of fine sand ideal for launching and first sessions. Local schools like the École de Voile de Courseulles animate the place with courses for all levels.

Close to the mouth of the Seulles, this spot attracts riders for its family atmosphere and variable conditions depending on the tides. Direct parking facilitates access, and water activities are well organized.

Surrounded by dunes and seaside restaurants, the beach combines sports practice and relaxation after sessions.

Location

Detailed information

The beach of Courseulles-sur-Mer is oriented east-west, with wind often side-on from the northwest or west that comes perfectly onto the beach for smooth navigation. Launching is done directly from the fine sand at the parking area of Croix de Lorraine on Plage Plaisance, a zone dedicated to traction sports. The take-off area is wide and clear, without major obstacles.

Depending on the tides, the water state changes completely: at high tide, the water rises high and covers the beach, ideal for kitefoiling with depth everywhere; at falling tide, small waves form for surfing on a twintip; at low tide, you can stand far out and have a flat water plan perfect for freestyle or wakestyle. Prefer a tide coefficient above 70 for optimal sessions. The navigation area extends along the beach, but remain vigilant about channels at low tide and marked swimming zones.

Local features include the proximity to the mouth of the Seulles which can create currents, and the presence of schools like EDV Courseulles for supervision. The wind is thermal in summer, stronger in winter with Atlantic depressions.
