Mayapo

Mayapo is undoubtedly the most idyllic spot on the Colombian Caribbean coast. Located about twenty kilometers north of Riohacha, this small wayuu village borders a vast turquoise bay where the wind blows almost all year round. The golden dunes and crystal-clear waters create a breathtaking backdrop, worthy of the Caribbean lagoons. It is a place where simplicity reigns: palm huts, smiling fishermen, and a relaxed atmosphere. The spot is perfect for all levels – from beginners discovering kitesurfing to experienced riders training in flat water in a peaceful and wild environment.

Detailed information

The wind blows side-onshore (from the right), constant and warm, creating a water surface flat to slightly choppy depending on the tide. At low tide, the lagoon becomes a huge mirror of water where you can ride for miles. At high tide, a small chop forms, making freeriding more dynamic. The beach is wide, sandy, and obstacle-free, ideal for learning and progressing. Local schools offer lessons and recent equipment, and the area is spacious enough for everyone to find their space. The spot is particularly suitable for long technical sessions and downwinds to Riohacha or Punta Gallinas.
