Mayapo
The Lagoon of Lagoon at Mayapo, in La Guajira, Colombia, is an isolated spot in the heart of the Guajiro desert, territory of the Wayuus. It is easily accessible from Riohacha in a 30-minute drive, with a white sandy beach right next to it for ocean sessions.
It is a calm and uncrowded place, perfect for riders looking for authenticity with its mangroves and flat water. Schools like Coco Kite have a station directly on the beach, with a rescue boat.
The spot alternates between the lagoon for flat and the beach for side-on, in a wild setting of dunes and desert.

Location
Detailed information
The lagoon works ideally with east side-offshore wind in the morning, which turns to northeast side-onshore around 10am-2pm. This is perfect for safe riding, with easy access from the grassy or sandy edges of the lagoon.
The riding area is wide and shallow, up to the hips, surrounded by mangroves that protect from chop. For takeoff, we use the main beach of Mayapo when the wind is side-on to on, or we transport to the lagoon in case of offshore.
The water remains flat to choppy depending on the tide and wind, with downwind sessions possible to other spots. Schools offer boat services for rescues and organized trips.
