Conditions de navigation

The beach of Haad Chaloklum faces north, ideal for N/NE winds that blow side-on or slightly onshore during the northeast season from November to January. The navigation area is a wide flat and shallow lagoon, protected by outer reefs, with water waist-deep even for beginners.

Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, easy to access, and the launch area is wide but watch for moored fishing boats. Stay in the center of the bay for the perfect flat; to the right towards the east, it becomes more wavy with small head-high waves in strong wind, and to the left near the rock wall, the water is more choppy.

The water remains flat to light chop at low tide, ideal for lessons, and a bit more choppy at high tide. Schools relocate here in season, making the spot lively but with enough space for 10-15 riders. Be cautious of boat passage areas to exit to the open sea to the east or west.

Vent ideal
Ndominant
NEdominant

Ideal conditions are N/NE 15-25 knots, side-on, for perfect flat and long sessions. Avoid overly strong onshore days that make launching tricky with the waves.

État de la mer

The water state is mostly flat in the central lagoon, with a slight chop from side-on wind. In strong conditions, small waves form on the outer reef, perfect for beginner wave riding.

Courants marins

Currents are generally weak in the protected lagoon, but they can strengthen near the passes to the open sea to the east or west. Tropical tides are moderate, with a range of about 1-2 meters, without major impact on navigation.

Taille de kite recommandée

Opt for sizes of 9 to 12m² in medium wind of the season, 7-9m² for strong gusts up to 30 knots, and 12-14m² on lighter days.

Météo & vent

The main wind pattern comes from the north/northeast (N/NE) from November to January, stable and consistent, with typical strengths of 15-25 knots. In strong winds, it can rise to 30 knots, creating rideable waves on the reef.

Outside of this period, the spot is lightly windy, leading to the relocation of schools to the south of the island.

Climat

The climate in Koh Phangan is hot tropical all year round, with temperatures around 28-32°C in the dry season from November to February, and more humid from May to October. The northeast wind season brings stable and sunny weather from November to January.

Rainfall is low during the kite high season, making sessions enjoyable without prolonged showers.

Profondeur

The depth is gradual and shallow, with feet up to 50-100 meters from the shore in the lagoon, mostly sandy bottom. Beyond that, it drops towards the reef.

Température de l’eau

The water remains warm all year round at 27-30°C, with no need for a wetsuit in the dry season from November to March, and around 28°C the rest of the time.
