Spiaggia Libera
Italy · Veneto
The Spiaggia Libera in Chioggia, Veneto, is a large urban beach in Sottomarina, very convenient and well-equipped, ideal for families and relaxing days by the sea. It is a lively beach in the heart of the resort, with a wide stretch of fine sand facing the Northern Adriatic.
Behind the sand, there is the lungomare with its services and stabilimenti, but there remains a good portion of free beach to lay down your towel. The atmosphere is that of a vibrant city beach, not always crystal clear but perfect for relaxing.
Towards the northern port dam, there are more open areas, although the crowd is high in season.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The beach is oriented facing east towards the Adriatic, which means that winds from north to south (N to S) are mostly onshore or side-on depending on the angle, bringing choppy water. The water entry is directly from the wide and soft sand, easy even for beginners, with a takeoff area on the free beach near the port dam.
The navigation area extends along the urban beach of 600m long and up to 80m wide, but caution is needed near the pennelli frangiflutti that protect the beach. The bottom is shallow and sandy, with water up to the knees far from the shore in deep water. No dedicated kitesurfing spots identified, it is more of a family place than freeride, with short and coastal navigation.
In case of moderate swell from the east, the water surface becomes chop to wave light, but the beach is generally sheltered for calm sea. Be careful of nearby port areas to avoid boats.
