Genêts

The Bec d'Andaine beach, located in Genêts in Normandy, offers a vast and wild setting facing the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. It is a spot appreciated by locals for its space and proximity to the pedestrian crossings of the bay, as well as for the view of the Mont.

The beach is mainly frequented off-season and remains quite calm in summer outside the marked areas. The site combines wide sandy areas and tidal zones that quickly change the water surface.

Detailed information

The wind often blows from the West/Southwest in this part of the bay, which gives side-on and side-onshore orientations depending on the exact angle of the wind. The beach is very wide and the decreasing depth makes the spot more interesting at low tide where the water surface is flatter and usable over vast areas.

Launching is easy from the sand, but one must take into account the sandbanks and muddy areas that form depending on the tide. Practitioners should use the wide spaces to take off and land the kite, avoiding areas frequented by crossing groups of the bay.

There are areas to avoid near the passes and flow channels where the current is concentrated. In side-off wind (full side sea wind), access can be more challenging as the bay is vast and the wind orientation can make returning tricky.

The site does not have a school or permanently marked official area for kitesurfing, so it is necessary to inquire locally before setting up and to respect summer regulations and marked swimming areas.
