Fréjus

The Esclamandes beach, located in Saint-Aygulf near Fréjus on the Côte d'Azur, is a true kitesurfing temple in the Mediterranean. This beach of 600 meters of fine sand stretches along the coast with three artificial breakwaters that protect the swimming areas. It is a spot appreciated by riders for its consistent conditions and dedicated kitesurfing infrastructure.

The kite preparation area is located to the north of the beach, on a spacious area that allows rigging and launching in good conditions. During the high season, a Beach Marshal ensures safety and the site is exclusively reserved for kitesurfing. The beach is divided into several zones: family, naturist, reserved for kitesurfing, and for dogs, making it a spot accessible to all audiences.

Location

Detailed information

The spot mainly works with a thermal wind from the south and an east wind. The northeast to southwest orientation offers the best conditions, with side-shore to side-on wind depending on the periods. In contrast, with the Mistral (northwest), the wind blows offshore, making navigation dangerous and to be avoided.

In the high summer season, a channel marked by yellow buoys allows access to 300 meters offshore. This channel is bordered by buffer zones prohibited for navigation and swimming for safety reasons. Rigging and navigation are strictly limited to the area dedicated to kitesurfing in summer. The gradual depth and fine sand facilitate take-offs and landings.

With an east wind, some waves and a marked shore-break can complicate departures. At certain times, the Argens may overflow onto the beach, reducing the take-off space. The spot is accessible all year round, but conditions vary according to seasonal wind regimes.

Risks & Safety

  • Rigging and navigation outside the kitesurfing area are strictly prohibited in summer for safety reasons with bathers.

  • The Mistral (northwest) makes navigation dangerous as the wind pushes offshore and does not allow for easy return to the beach.

  • In high season, it is mandatory to use the channel marked by yellow buoys to reach beyond 300 meters offshore.

  • The buffer zones bordering the channel are prohibited for navigation and swimming, serving as a safety margin.

  • At certain times, the Argens may overflow onto the beach, reducing the take-off space and requiring increased vigilance.

  • A Beach Marshal monitors the site in high season and ensures compliance with safety rules.
