Cap d’Agde

The Richelieu beach in Cap d’Agde, Occitanie, is a popular spot for its beautiful waves and proximity to the lively city. Bordered by a long breakwater and a large parking lot, it offers easy and comfortable access for sliding sessions. Very busy on good days, especially with a South-East wind, it attracts riders, windsurfers, and wingfoilers.

The beach is wide, over 100 meters in places, with space to prepare gear just after the parking. In summer, beach bars set up and reduce the area, but the spot remains generous. Closed from June 15 to September 15, it becomes ideal off-season to enjoy the clean waves formed by the swell against the port's breakwater.

The fort of Brescou in front adds a nice landmark for long runs, and the atmosphere is friendly with the activities of Cap d’Agde just a stone's throw away.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works best with a South-East (marine) wind, which is side-on to side-shore relative to the east-west oriented beach, perfect for waves. This wind hits the port's breakwater to the east, creating clean and predictable sets with space between them for jumps or freeride. A flat area between the waves allows for easy repositioning.

Launching is done directly from the wide beach, but be careful of the many windsurfers and the breakwater that makes take-off tricky near the east. Schools like Topkite operate in open sea with a boat to avoid coastal areas. With a West wind, it’s more onshore with flat conditions near the jetties for freestyle; the Tramontane (North) is gusty near the shore but good in offshore for advanced riders towards Marseillan.

The navigation area extends in front of the beach, protected by the breakwater and the fort Brescou, with space for 30 riders on good weekends. Tides have little impact in the Mediterranean, but always check for swell raised by strong winds. Busy, anticipate crowds and beach bars in season.
