El Gouna

Osmosis Kiteboarding Club Paradisio is a kitesurfing center nestled on the beach of the Club Paradisio hotel in El Gouna, on the Red Sea in Egypt. This spot stands out for its two sailing areas: a vast and beautiful shallow lagoon, ideal for beginners, and a deep water spot for the more experienced.

The center benefits from direct access to the sea from the family hotel, with a relaxed atmosphere and fewer people on the water compared to other resorts in El Gouna. Instructors speak English, French, German, and Arabic, making the lessons accessible to everyone.

It is a perfect place to learn kitesurfing, foiling, or wingfoiling, even at low tide, thanks to the lagoon that remains usable.

The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.

  • 🟢 10–16 kts: light but sailable wind (especially on foil).
  • 🟡 16–22 kts: ideal range, comfortable conditions for most.
  • 🔴 22–28 kts: strong wind, reserved for experienced riders.
  • 🟣 28+ kts: extreme conditions, committed riding.

Riding conditions

The Osmosis Kiteboarding spot offers two distinct areas suitable for all levels. The shallow lagoon, the largest in El Gouna for lessons, is perfect for beginners with standing room everywhere and no obstacles; it is accessed directly from the beach of the Club Paradisio hotel. For experienced riders, the deep water spot is just in front, accessible in a few minutes by boat, with vast space and no crowds.

The winds are stable and side-on or side-shore depending on the dominant direction from northwest to east, blowing regularly over the Red Sea. The launch is easy on the sandy lagoon without reefs, and takeoff is done on the spacious beach with a well-organized setup. Even at low tide, the lagoon remains usable and deep water is always accessible, with no impact from tides on the main navigation. Conditions are great for foiling and wingfoiling thanks to the quick depth and calm water.

The water surface is generally flat in the lagoon, with a slight chop in deep water during strong winds. Ideal side-on orientation from offshore, avoiding direct onshore which remains rare here.

Ideal wind

S

Ideal conditions occur with a side-on wind of 15 to 25 knots coming from the northwest or west, stable throughout the day. This is perfect for all disciplines, from beginners to advanced foiling.

Sea state

The water surface is mostly flat and smooth in the large lagoon, perfect for progressing without waves. In the deep area, a light chop forms with sustained wind, but nothing technical for intermediates.

Sea currents

Currents are weak in the protected lagoon of Osmosis, making the area very safe for beginners. In deep water, they remain moderate, with no dangerous channels reported, although the open sea may have light flows depending on the tides.

Recommended kite size

Opt for sizes from 9 to 12 m² on average for typical winds of 15-20 knots, dropping to 7-9 m² during stronger gusts. Beginners often prefer 12 m² in the calm lagoon.

Weather & wind

The regular winds of the Red Sea, often called khamsin or simply thermal trade winds, mostly come from the northwest to east, with consistent strengths of 15-25 knots year-round. The regime is reliable every month, with an exceptional score of 99/100 and directions around 246° ideal for the spot.

Climate

The climate in El Gouna is hot and dry year-round, with pleasant temperatures in winter around 20-25°C during the day and warmer in summer up to 35°C. Dry seasons dominate, making kitesurfing sessions comfortable without rain, although winter nights can be a bit cooler.

Depth

The lagoon offers a gradual depth with a sandy bottom, safe for standing up for several dozen meters. Deep water starts quickly without reefs, usable at any tide.

Water temperature

The water of the Red Sea remains warm year-round, around 22-24°C in winter and up to 28-30°C in summer. A short lycra is sufficient outside the cold season.
