Location
Detailed information
Praia de Estoril offers exceptional conditions for kitesurfing, particularly due to the protection offered by the islet of Sal Rei. The waters are generally very flat, creating a lagoon-like water surface ideal for progression. The wind mainly blows from the northeast (NE) and north-northeast (NNE), with a side-shore to side-on orientation relative to the beach, allowing for safe and controlled navigation.
Launching is very easy from the fine sandy beach. The take-off area extends along the entire length of Praia de Estoril, with no major obstacles. The water surface remains flat even at high tide, although the depth increases gradually. At low tide, the waters become even flatter and shallower, creating almost pool-like conditions perfect for beginners. The wind generally stabilizes from 11 am and decreases in intensity around 5 pm.
Several secondary spots are accessible nearby: a reef with a small wave up to waist height offers opportunities to practice maneuvers, while the Léoa spot, located 900 meters away, offers a larger wave for those seeking more dynamic conditions. Local guides can direct you to the best spot of the day based on wind direction and swell.
