Morat Plage
Switzerland · Fribourg
The Morat beach is located on the Lake of Morat in Fribourg, Switzerland. It is a spot recently authorized for kitesurfing since 2016, with well-defined areas to coexist with windsurfers and paddlers.
The Pantschau area serves as the main access point, although the wind conditions there can be capricious near the shore. It is a popular spot for walkers in summer, hence the seasonal closure.
The spot mainly attracts experienced riders due to its lake water and typical thermal winds of Swiss lakes.

The wind is often side-shore or side-on with optimal directions from W to SW and NE, allowing for good kite filling without too much turbulence once away from the shore. Near the beach, conditions are capricious with gusts due to trees and terrain, so you need to paddle or row to quickly get away from the first 100-200 meters.
Launching at Pantschau is technical: you need to pass between large rock blocks that form the shore, which requires caution especially in strong winds. The launch area is limited and shared; respect the markers to avoid windsurfing and SUP zones. Once on the water, the navigation area extends over a large part of the Fribourg lake, outside natural reserves at the ends.
No tides on this freshwater lake, the water surface remains constant but can become choppy with established wind. Ideal sessions occur just outside the prohibited zone, with clean wind in the middle of the lake. Be cautious of other users: the spot is busy in high season.
