Kite season in Greece — when to go

Meltemi typically kicks in late May and blows until late September. July and August are the most reliable with 20+ wind days/month, but also the busiest. June and September strike an excellent balance: meltemi still there, fewer crowds, softer prices. Off-season (October to April) has little reliable wind and most schools close.

Best kitesurfing spots in Greece

Paros: Pounda (main spot, shallow flat ideal to start and progress), Golden Beach and Santa Maria (more technical). Naxos: Mikri Vigla (flat with chop towards the end), Laguna (lagoon side). Rhodes: Prasonissi, the must-see. Kos: Marmari and Tigaki for beginners. Karpathos: Afiartis, technical and windy. Kefalos, Mykonos, Lemnos round out the map.
