Mimizan

The Garluche beach in Mimizan, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is a large central beach close to the pedestrian area. It separates the Mimizan Current which connects Lake Aureilhan to the ocean, with easy access to restaurants and shops. It is a kitesurfing spot with a designated area, appreciated for its relative tranquility compared to other Landes beaches.

Parking is free, with spaces for motorhomes and bicycles, and a lifeguard station ensures safety during the season. The sandbanks are well marked, even in summer, and there is space without crowds at the peaks. Locals often ride there thermally in the late morning.

Posizione

Informazioni dettagliate

The Garluche beach is oriented west, ideal for a side-on wind from south to north, or side-shore with the northwest thermal that rises in late morning in spring and summer. The water surface is glassy early in the morning before the thermal breeze, then becomes choppy with the sea wind. The navigation area is reserved for kites, separated from monitored swimming areas; the launch is directly from the sandy beach, with easy takeoff in the wide space.

Be careful to navigate away from the mouth of the Mimizan Current to the south, where currents are stronger. The sandbanks form flat areas for freestyle, but with swell >1.8m, right and left waves form in beach break. At low tide, the water remains navigable but waves can break near the shore; at high tide, more offshore space. The spot holds swell well up to 2.5m without excessive saturation.
