Dune du Pyla

The Plage de la Corniche is located at the foot of the Dune du Pilat in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, with a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing in the low season, set in a wild environment between pine trees and fine sand.

Close to the Arcachon Bay, it offers easy access from La Teste-de-Buch. Riders come here for the ocean conditions and the preserved atmosphere, away from the summer crowds.

In summer, practice is regulated with specific zones to avoid swimming and mooring areas.

Informazioni dettagliate

The spot works well with winds from west and northwest that are side-on or side-shore relative to the west-facing beach. Direct onshore wind from the west is ideal for a clean launch on the wide sand, but be cautious of disturbed wind near the dune and the pines at the edge.

The navigation area extends in front of the beach, staying offshore from the channel leading to the port and the mooring dead bodies to the north. Launching is done directly from the beach, with a good quick water height for the foil, but you need to go upwind to avoid drifting towards the channel downwind.

At low tide, the water is flatter near the shore with exposed sand, ideal for beginners in foil; at high tide, it becomes more chop with ocean waves depending on the swell. Avoid kitesurfing in the cove to the north marked by yellow buoys, which is prohibited for kites. Prepare your gear on the sand or nearby grass, but do not launch on grass.
