Plage de Moliets
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The Moliets beach in Moliets-et-Maa, in the Landes region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is a long stretch of fine sand typical of the Landes coast. It is a popular spot for intermediate riders due to its generous space and exposure to Atlantic winds.
Surrounded by dunes and close to beach shops, it offers a lively atmosphere in season with surf schools and sliding spots. Locals come here for regular sessions, especially in summer.
The central beach is monitored during the high season, which adds to its accessibility for experienced practitioners.

The spot works well with winds from SW to NW, which are side-shore or side-on relative to the north-south oriented beach, offering a stable water surface for freeride or wave sessions. The launch area is wide thanks to the large sandy beach, with significant take-off space even at high tide. At low tide, navigation is closer to the shore on a flat bottom with light chop, while at high tide, the waves rise and the water surface becomes more agitated with chop and small to medium waves.
The best navigation areas are in the center of the beach, avoiding swimming areas marked by nets in season. The thermal wind picks up in the afternoon in summer, complemented by stronger Atlantic fronts in autumn. Be cautious of waves that can grow quickly with W or NW swell, making the spot ideal for strapless or wave riding for experts.
Launching is done directly from the dry sand, with no major obstacles, but care must be taken for space to take off with the crowd in high season.
