Ometepe

The spot most often works with an east to east-northeast wind, which generally gives a side-shore to side-on orientation depending on the exact launch point and the beach line. The navigation area is quite open on the lake, with space to head offshore and go upwind without major difficulty in normal conditions.

The water surface is most often choppy, with fresh water and an irregular texture due to the wind and exposure on the lake. When the wind is stable, there can be smoother sections near the shore, but overall it remains generally more formed than a true lagoon flat. Launching is done from a sandy beach, with a fairly simple start, but one must remain attentive to the local organization of the area, other users, and possible water level variations depending on the period.

In season, the spot is especially interesting for regular navigation, with easy runs and a rather comfortable launch area. The place is suitable for clean and smooth riding, but it can become more demanding if the wind picks up or if the water surface becomes rougher. The best time slots are generally during the dry season, when the trade winds are most consistent on Ometepe.
