Amble

Druridge Bay, near Amble in Northumberland, is a large beach spot with a wild and very open setting. The bay offers a long stretch of sand, with a preserved natural environment and few visual or physical obstacles.

It is a spot appreciated for its vast and accessible character, with a simple and less urbanized atmosphere. People come here to kitesurf in a typical northeastern England coastal setting, between dunes, sand, and an open horizon.

Informazioni dettagliate

The spot mainly works with wind from the W to NW, which arrives side-shore to side-on depending on the exact orientation on the beach. The best conditions reported by surf guides occur with northeast swell and offshore wind from the west, confirming a particular interest in west winds in this coastal area.

The water surface depends heavily on the tide. At mid-tide, the spot is generally the most usable, while around high tide some sources report very little beach available for about two hours on either side of the tide peak. The launch takes place on a large sandy beach, but one must remain attentive to the shoreline area when the tide rises quickly.

Navigation occurs over a wide open area, with no marked relief offshore, providing enough space for takeoff and return to shore when the beach is clear. The spot remains more comfortable when the sea is low to medium, as the sandbar is then wider and launch phases are simpler.

Rischi e sicurezza

  • The beach can offer very little sand around high tide, complicating takeoff and landing.
  • The current can be fast on a falling tide, especially if one loses their board.
  • The spot is exposed, so gusts and wind variations require good vigilance.
